Basic Information
Author:
McCormick, Kelli
Author:
South Dakota Geological Survey
Description:
This dataset contains wellheader features compiled by the South Dakota Geological Survey, and published as a Web feature service for the National Geothermal Data System. Fields in the Wellheader Content Model will become XML elements in interchange documents for WMS simple features provided by a node in the USGIN network. Each feature includes a well name, well depth as well as Latitude and Longitude spatially referenced to EPSG: 4326 (for interoperability). The data contained in the submitted dataset is available as an Excel Spreadsheet, ESRI service, WMS and WFS service. Washington Well Header data

Basic Information
Author:
Jeff Bowman
Author:
Jessica Czajkowski
Description:
Information was provided to the Division of Geology and Earth Resources by operators and filed. Beginning in 1947, Information Circulars were created from the filed information provided by the operators. Points were created and attributed from information contained in these Information Circulars and addendums. Different methods were used to generate these points. Some were programmatically generated, some approximated using section divisions, and others were electronically measured from section lines. It was known that some of the well locations were in error for two reasons. Firstly, the spreadsheet data came from sources one or more iterations removed from the original data. Original data is located in hard-copy files maintained by the Washington Division of Geology and Earth Resources (Livingston, 1958; McFarland, 1981; McFarland, 1983; oil and gas addendum) pursuant to the Oil and Gas Conservation Act, Chapter 146 (RCW 78.52.001 to 78.52-550), and in hard-copy files for some wells drilled prior to 1954 when the Oil and Gas Conservation Act went into effect. Secondly, the program used to generate the initial latitude-longitude locations did not yield locations as precise as the original file information would allow. Therefore, we reviewed the locations in the hard-copy files and 1) corrected the township, range, section, and within section location data in the spreadsheet, and 2) added information for wells that had been permitted under the Oil and Gas Conservation Act but not drilled. For most records the location in the original hard-copy files is in the form of township, range, section, distance from the north or south section line, and distance from the east or west section line. In other cases, especially for wells drilled prior to the Oil and Gas Conservation Act, that degree of detail is not available.

Active Faults Geodatabase

Basic Information
Author:
Jessica Czajkowski
Description:
The records within this dataset represent faults with known or suspected Quaternary (<1,600,000 yrs) activity in the state of Washington. These records make up a feature class that is part of a geodatabase that contains data on seismogenic features in Washington State. Other feature classes are active_fold, earthquake_location, and excavation_trench. Data were gathered from numerous sources, including the Washington State portion of the U.S Geological Survey's "Quaternary fault and fold database of the United States" (USGS, 2010). Faults were attributed with information such as age, visibility, method of detection, and in most cases, the corresponding ID number for the fault in the USGS database, for easy correlation between the two data sources. This dataset contains multiple interpretations of the same faults or fault systems by different authors, which may be only partially co-located. Differing interpretations are the result of different methods used to detect the faults and the scale of the investigation. Care should be used with this dataset to ensure full understanding of the scope of past work and breadth of interpretation of the fault of interest.

WA Gradient/Heat Flow/Water Well Header Template

Basic Information
Author:
Jeff Bowman
Author:
Jessica Czajkowski
Description:
This dataset contains information on the location and heat characteristics of known geothermal and heat flow wells in the state of Washington. This dataset includes borehole and water well temperature information obtained from the Washington State Department of Ecology (ECY), Washington Division of Geology and Earth Resources Open File Report 94-11 (OFR 94-11), Southern Methodist University (SMU) Regional Heat Flow Database, and the U.S. Geological Survey. We also include unpublished data on file with the Division. Data from these sources were incorporated into this database only if a calculated gradient or an assumed bottom-hole temperature were recorded. We use the term 'assumed' to denote that the location of the temperature measurement within the borehole is assumed to be the bottom, although this is generally unknown; temperatures from this dataset should be considered mininum bottom-hole temperatures. Scanned geophysical logs are available for some of these locations through related data tables. In addition, temperature-depth plots are available for many boreholes. Much of the data is located within central and eastern Washington.
