Alabama Borehole Temperatures

Basic Information
Author:
Musgrove, Camilla
Description:
This dataset contains borehole temperature observations compiled by the Geological Survey of Alabama, and published as a Web feature service for the National Geothermal Data System. Fields in the Borehole Temperature Content Model will become XML elements in interchange documents for WMS simple features provided by a node in the USGIN network. Each observation includes a fluid temperature, measurement depth, latitude and longitude referenced to EPSG: 4326 (for interoperability). The data contained in the submitted dataset(s) are available as Excel Spreadsheets, ESRI service, WMS and WFS services. Excel workbooks are available for download by county, grouped alphabetically. Year two additions to the Alabama Borehole Temperatures and combined datasets are also grouped. Access Statement:
Requests for geophysical log orders should be submitted via e-mail to logroom@ogb.state.al.us (preferred method) or faxed to 205.349.2861. Include the well permit number, the type of log (EL, N/D, SON, etc) and filename being requested. Also, please specify the desired format (paper copies or tiff images on a CD). Cost is $.75 per linear foot for paper copies and $.65 per linear foot equivalent for tiff images plus shipping. If you do not have an established account with the Geological Survey/State Oil and Gas Board, prepayment is required. Upon receipt of an order request, a price quote will be generated and e-mailed along with instructions for payment. Upon receipt of payment, the order will be processed. All paper copies are sent via U.S. Postal Service or U.P.S., and CDs are sent by U.S. Postal Service. Please provide clearly marked billing and mailing addresses with each order. Log orders are processed in the order received after payment has been made. Additional information may be obtained by contacting our staff by phone at 205.247.3652.

Basic Information

Description:
This is a data interchange content model for a subsurface temperature measurement made in a borehole. Header content that characterizes the borehole sampling feature is included with each observation to assist users finding measurements based on location, depth, particular borehole, etc. This information will be provided through a borehole temperature observation service. The HeaderURI for a particular borehole (well for simple wells) is the cross-referencing link (foreign key) used to associate the header record, well logs, temperature measurements, and other information from a particular borehole. Fields in the content model description become XML elements in interchange documents for WFS simple features served by AASG geothermal data web services.Typically bottomhole temperatures are recorded from log headers, and this information will be provided through a borehole temperature observation service. Subsurface temperature data may also be obtained by measurements targeted specifically to obtain thermal data.
