Alabama Seismic Event Hypocenters

Basic Information
Author:
Ebersole, Sandy
Description:
This dataset contains seismic event hypocenters compiled by the Geological Survey of Alabama, and published as a Web feature service for the National Geothermal Data System. Fields in the Seismic Event Hypocenter Content Model will become XML elements in interchange documents for WMS simple features provided by a node in the USGIN network. Each observation includes an Event Name, Depth, latitude and longitude referenced to EPSG: 4326 (for interoperability). The data contained in the submitted dataset(s) are available as Excel Spreadsheets, ESRI service, WMS and WFS services. An excel workbooks containing year 1 approved data is available for download. AASG Geothermal Data: Seismic Event Hypocenter feature template

Basic Information
Author:
Richard, Stephen M.
Author:
Love, Diane S.
Description:
This resource specifies the information content requested for features representing Seismic Event hypocenter observations. Design is focused on event hypocenters portrayed as points. Hypocenter data for geothermal data system is intended as a tool to identify seismically active areas that are often associated with hydrothermal activity, thus the content model does not include detailed information that would be important for seismological analysis; such information should be accessed by including related resource links. As such data should be restricted to records for known or suspected earthquakes. Epicenters may also be reported by leaving depth information null. The template is an Excel v2003 spreadsheet. Latitude and longitude coordinates reported in the spreadsheet will be converted to the 'geometry' or 'shape' field when the template is converted to a feature class to set up a web feature service to deliver data.
